Daddy built me a tree house in a young shade tree
A special place for brave little me.
In the springtime the leaves were so lush and green
I could see home but home could not see me.
I'd spin and laugh
and hang my feet
and slowly slowly close my eyes just for a little rest
That's when my tree turned into
a mighty ship and my platform a tall crow's nest.
From the tip top I could see forever,
out on the sea on a pirate's quest.
I'd run to the woods when no one was looking
and sneak up into the branches.
But there was only me.
Brave little me, in my shade tree.
Sometimes my tree was an island
Surrounded by clear ocean blue
I'd pretend I was building a sandcastle
And a moat around it too
Sometimes I'd slink out there to cry
Trying not to blink as tears
filled
my
eyes
I'd sit and mope
and hang my feet
and slowly slowly remember me
That tree house lived for many years, and finally crumbled into a sea...a sea or a sandbox or a resting spot and it left only brave little me, under my shade tree.
